Before taking our quiz, please read the following information to help you understand more about our water & help answer the quiz questions.

Best Management Practices: Vehicles

Vehicle and Equipment Washing
The water that runs off when a vehicle is washed contains:

  • Oil
  • Grease
  • Metal (paint chips)
  • Phosphates
  • Detergents
  • Soap
  • Cleaners
  • Road salts
  • Other chemicals that can contaminate water.

To prevent contamination, the runoff water should not be allowed to enter storm sewers or percolate into the ground. The use of special areas to wash vehicles where the drains are connected to the sanitary sewer and treated at a Wastewater Treatment Plant is recommended.

Vehicle and Equipment Maintenance and Repair
Whenever doing maintenance or repair on equipment, do it on an impervious surface and be careful with any hazardous liquids that may be released from the equipment. Recycle used oil and other vehicle fluids.
